Have you ever wanted a super power? I have. Sometimes I sit on my bed at night, contemplating the day, and think of all the problems and questions that could have been solved if I had just one super power. That one super power…the ability to choose the right!
Think it’s not a super power to choose the right? Well, I think it’s the greatest of super powers. Choosing the right takes courage and strength. It takes an inward commitment to good and right. When you use your super “choose the right” power, you will be a hero.
Like Super Man’s cape, any real super hero needs a symbol…something that characterizes their power. For me, I want my CTR ring to be my distinguishing feature. I know that all I have to do is wear my ring and the power to make good decisions is mine! It’s as easy as looking at my ring and knowing I’m protected and ready to conquer the world.
Choose a Tungsten CTR ring to make sure your super power never lets you down. Tungsten CTR rings are strong, won’t bend, won’t scratch, and will last you a lifetime. When you’re out saving the world one good choice at a time, you’re going to need the best CTR out there!
We hear a lot about sacrificing, especially this time of the year as we celebrate Independence Day and Pioneer Day. But what is sacrifice? And how do you show sacrifice in your life?
Sacrifice, in its simplest definition is choosing to give up something you like, for something better. You know, it’s like giving up three Heresy’s Kisses now for a King Size chocolate bar later! The sacrifice right now is worth it for something greater in the end.
Sometimes, when we are faced with choosing the right and making the right decision, it can feel like sacrifice. It might feel like we are sacrificing friends, a good party, an excellent movie, or having fun. At the time, our sacrifice seems so great. If only we could see into the future a bit…we’d see that this small sacrifice now is worth it in the end.
Giving up that one party now, could result in living a pure life later. Choosing not to go to that movie, even though it got excellent reviews, could result in clean thoughts the next day. Choosing to keep good friends could result in life-long friendships that last forever. Choosing the right now could result in happiness the rest of your life.
So what may seem like a big sacrifice now really isn’t that big of a sacrifice when you look at the big picture. Think about the things you’re asked to give up today…and contemplate the greater reward that awaits.
Not long ago I was out for a nightly run. I’m not a big runner, but I was training for a race and knew I had to get my pace up. I decided this particular night to take a new route. About 10 minutes into my run, I came into direct eye contact with a huge German Shepard. Now, keep in mind, I’m deathly afraid of dogs. I stared the dog down for about 30 seconds, when suddenly, he started charging at me! I didn’t know what to do. My first instinct was to turn around and run…but I knew the dog would just chase me. So I stood there, facing the dog head on.
About 5 feet in front of me, the dog suddenly stopped. He must have reached some invisible line in his mind that said it was safe. Then, his owner called him and he went back home. My heart was racing, but I knew it was safe to keep going so I did.
It occurred to me that this experience is a lot like life. We run into things that absolutely terrify us! We have trials, we have to make difficult choices, we have to step out of our comfort zone. Sometimes, our first instinct is to automatically run! But running from the things we must face head on won’t do any good…in fact, that hard thing will probably follow us! So we just keep going, face the trial, and move on.
Luckily for me, that dog stopped before I had to react. But I was ready to scream, kick, cry, whatever it took to get that dog away from me! I sure wish I would have had some kind of spray or something with me. When we reach these scary times in our life, it’s nice to be “armed” with something to help us make the right choice.
For me, I like to wear my CTR ring. My CTR ring is a lot like the spray I wish I would have had to keep the dog away. It keeps danger at a safe distance, enabling me to live my life despite the scary things around me. It’s a protection—a shield.
In this world where scary things come at us from all angles, it’s nice to know we have a source of protection. Our CTR rings can be the thing to protect us from evil and keep us on the right path in life.
I don’t believe in self esteem. In fact, I think self esteem is a made up concept. Self esteem is the world’s way of taking a beautiful, eternal truth and distorting it to fit our mortal views. Self esteem is a diluted idea for self worth.
I do believe in self worth, in the truth that I have a piece of divinity within me, that I am a daughter of God. I have no doubt of self worth. I am worth much more than the world makes me believe.
This whole idea of self worth is something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. When we truly understand our eternal nature we won’t have the desire to live a life any less worthy of divine influence. When we truly understand who we are, we can take our self esteem and discard it – forever.
When we choose the right, we automatically have the confidence we need to know we are worthy of divine influence. Making the right choices gives us the ability to stand ready to serve and ready to give our all to our Heavenly Father.
As a daughter of my Heavenly Father, I realize how important it is for me to daily strive to live to my full potential. The world can throw all of its nastiness at me and it won’t matter – because I have an eternal perspective. I will choose the right.
The world can tell me I need to be prettier, thinner, more aggressive, assertive, and strong-willed. The fact of the matter is, I don’t have to believe the world. I am a daughter of God and nothing the world tells me will change that. Eternal truths last forever.
Recently, I’ve been thinking about the need to “be still.” We live in a world where we run about from activity to activity. We rush here and there. We are constantly on the go and constantly have noise in our lives. In our hustle and bustle world, it’s hard to hear the word of God. It’s hard to hear those small promptings that whisper to our hearts. We can’t choose the right if we have too much “noise” in our lives.
The more crazy the world gets, the more I want to choose the right. I mean, if there’s one sure thing in this world, it’s that a right choice is always a right choice. But I can’t remember to choose the right or listen to my own thoughts if I’m constantly on the go and worried about worldly matters. When I rush here and there, it’s easier for me to make bad choices or to step off course just a bit. When I’m rushing, I don’t think clearly.
So, in an effort to be more spiritually in tune and to make more conscience choices, I issued myself a challenge. I sit, for at least five minutes every day, and “be still.” There is no TV, there’s no internet, no iPod. I don’t answer my phone or send text messages. I just sit and contemplate my day and the decisions that I need to make. Sometimes, it’s hard to be still. It’s difficult to turn off my brain and get rid of the noise in my life. But when I do, the clarity and peace of mind I feel is incredible. The kind of peace that comes from being still is priceless.
I issue you the same challenge. Take some time during your day to be still. Sit and think about the important decisions in your life and the nature of God. Think about the good you want to do and the things you need to change. It won’t be long until you see that your ability to choose the right is strengthened by just a few moments of stillness.
