A CTR ring is an excellent reminder for your missionary of how much you love him and want him to succeed. Primary, of course! We all got them on that special Sunday when Sister Glock gave the lesson and gave each of us our own adjustable green and silver CTR ring. But where did she get them?
CTR rings got their start 40 years ago in 1970. Naomi W. Randall (who wrote “I am a Child of God”), leading a Church committee, suggested that the acronym CTR, for Choose the Right, accompanied by the shield design, be used for Church materials. The final design of the CTR ring was made by Helen Alldredge, who served on the Primary General Board. Douglas Coy Miles, a WWII veteran, was the person to make and supply the rings, shortly after Primary President Lavern W. Parmley okayed the idea. CTR rings, symbols of their wearers commitment to “Choose the Right”, have become extremely popular. the letters CTR can now be found on tie tacks, shirts, stationary, cups, hats, and just about anything else. But the original, and most meaningful, is the CTR ring. Available in a terrific variety of styles, this symbol, similar to the rings we wear to remember our marriage promises, reminds us daily of the desire and covenant we make to “Choose the Right!”
